Neal Berkowitz is a leasing and real estate development professional with more than four decades of experience. He has overseen upwards of $500M in land and property sales.
As Westfield’s Senior Vice President of Leasing, Neal Berkowitz oversaw the remerchandising of the $1.2 billion Westfield Century City development in Los Angeles. Working collaboratively with Westfield’s teams in development, design, construction, marketing and operations, Neal was responsible for concluding a majority of all lease transactions at the Westfield Century City. Today, the retail center encompasses more than 240 shops and restaurants across more than 1.3 million square feet of retail space. It is anchored by the West Coast’s first Eataly, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, an Equinox fitness club, an upscale Gelson’s supermarket and a 15-screen AMC Theatre. The multi-service space also houses a number of digitally native brands as well as a unique collection of health and wellness amenities, including a boxing gym, micro-fitness studio, health clinic, advanced disease prevention center and a state-of-the-art cryotherapy clinic. After its renovation, customer visits at Westfield Century City rose 93 percent from 2017 to 2018, according to Placer.ai, a company that analyzes foot traffic using cellphone data.
In the past, Mr. Berkowitz served as Senior Managing Director Retail & Capital Group at Newmark Knight Frank, specializing in Investment Sales, Acquisitions, Debt & Equity, Development, Consulting, Landlord and Tenant Representation. He also worked as Manager of Leasing at Taubman Centers, Inc. where he achieved status as the top manager in total deals over 21 shopping centers. In addition, Neal was responsible for the joint venture between Taubman and United Artist Theatres.

Upon project completion – Westfield Century City will encompass more than 240 shops and restaurants across more than 1.3 million square feet of retail space. Practicing since 1981, Neal has hands-on experience with how today’s world impacts the retail industry. Staying ahead of the trends in retail changes is Neal’s sixth sense.
